Sweden Gaming Advertising

The Swedish government is now appointing an inquiry into the Swedish gaming advertising. Swedish Minister of Civil Affairs Ardalan Shekarabi (S) does not rule out a total ban on gaming advertising for online casinos. He meant during a press conference that gaming advertising is unsustainable regarding both its content and scope. He also believes that the aggressiveness of advertising is a major problem. The Swedish Government considered that the industry's self-regulation is not sufficient and it does not provide sufficient protection for consumers, (ie the players). He also said that actions are required by the government, which means that the Swedish government is now initiating the process of tightening the regulatory framework for gaming advertising. Decisions will be made on tomorrow's government meeting.

According to Aftonbladet's article, the investigator now has free hands to come up with several different proposals to regulate game advertising. This may mean, for example, that the investigator proposes the same restrictions as for advertising for tobacco and alcohol, according to the Minister of Civil Affairs.
