Asian handicap in a summary to beginners. Asian Handicap reduces the possible number of outcomes from three to two: This simplification delivers two betting options that each have a near 50% chance of success. The term Asian Handicap was applied to this method of betting by a journalist, Joe Saumarez Smith, in November 1998. He was asked by an Indonesia bookmaker, Joe Phan, to provide a translation of the betting method that was termed 'hang cheng betting' by bookmakers in Asia

There are two types of Asian Handicaps, Single handicaps (Example: +0.5) and Split handicaps (Example: -0.25 or +0.25). These are explained below.

 

Asian handicap -0.5 ball handicap.
(Single handicap). If you pick -0.5. your team need to win. In other case you lose your bet. That simple is that.

 

Asian handicap (+0.5)

The underdogs will start the game with a asian handicap +0.5, and is the underdog. To win the bet you need at least a draw (x) or better.

 

Asian handicap 0 (Pk or +-0). 

This is the same as moneylines bets and PK. If the matcth ends with a draw. The bet is No action (voided) and money refunded. Some bookmakers use draw no bet instead and different rules may occur if overtime counts or not. Example: Nordicbet includes Overtime.(special rules).

Asian handicap (+1)

The +1 handicap wins the bet with a draw or better, while the bet will be refunded if it lose with exactly 1 goal (example: 0-1, 1-2, 2-3).

 

Asian handicap (-1)

The favourite -1 will start the game with a score of -1 which then means, the bet has to win by 2 or more goals to win, while the bet will be refunded if the favourite only beat the underdogs by 1 goal. (example: 1-0, 2-1, 3-2).

 

Asian handicap +0.25

This asian handicap splits in 2 bets. The half bet is on +0.5 handicap and the other half is on +0 handicap. If your team lose, you lose both bets. If the match ends up with a draw(X), you win the +0.5 bet. The other bet on PK(+0) is refunded. So if you bet 100, you split this bet in 50 on +0.5 and the other 50 on PK (+0).

 

Asian handicap -0.25

This asian handicap splits in 2 bets. The half bet is on (-0.5 handicap) and the other half is on (-0 handicap). If your team win, you win both bets. If the match ends up with a draw(X), you lose the -0.5 bet but refunds your bet on the other bet (PK or -0 hdc). So if you bet 100, you split this bet in 50 on -0.5 and the other 50 on PK(-0).

 

Asian handicap +0.75

This asian handicap splits in 2 bets. The half bet is on (+0.5 handicap) and the other half is on (+1 handicap). If your team lose with 2 goals or more, you lose both bets. If your team lose with exactly 1 goal, you lose the +0.5 bet. The other bet on +1 is refunded. So if you bet 100, you split this bet in 50 on +0.5 and the other 50 on PK (+1).

 

Asian handicap -0.75

This asian handicap splits in 2 bets. The half bet is on (-0.5 handicap) and the other half is on (-1 handicap). If your team win with 2 goals or more. If your team win with exactly 1 goal, you win the -0.5 bet but refunds your bet on the other bet (handicap -1). So if you bet 100, you split this bet in 50 on -0.5 and the other 50 on handicap (-1).

Do not mix European handicap odds with Asian Handicap odds. In European handicap you have 3 outcomes and with a handicap included. It also usually shortened terms (EHCP +1) (EHCP -X) (EHCP-1). 

 

Example view of European Handicaps:

(EHCP -1). You win if your team win with 2 goals. All other outcomes is settled as loss.(ehcpX) Your pick need to win with 1 goal. 1-0,2-1,3-2,4-3 etc. All other outcomes is settled as loss.(ehcp+1) Your team need to win or have at least a draw= You win. All other outcomes is settled as loss.

 

(EHCP -X) Your pick need to win with exactly 1 goal. 1-0,2-1,3-2,4-3 etc. All other outcomes is settled as loss.(ehcp+1) Your team need to win or have at least a draw= You win. All other outcomes is settled as loss.

 

(EHCP+1) Your team need to win or have at least a draw= You win. All other outcomes is settled as loss.
